In our last episode of the 21-22 academic year, host, Madi, sits down with Meghan, a junior from Tisch School of the Arts, and works as a NYU Athletics Operations Student-Employee. Meghan shares her routine, her passion and love for 404 Fitness (over Palladium), as well as her grueling scheduling, and how NYU Athletics and Recreation helps her keep her life balance. A tremendous listen to close the year!
NYU Athletic Trainer Chelsea Nugent sits down for a brief conversation on mental health, providing the unique perspective of a support staff member on how to best maximize the offseason. She gives her two cents on how student-athletes can best manage expectations of themselves while also making sure they recharge enough mentally to spring into their season at full strength as opposed to worn down.
Wellness Exchange 24/7 Hotline: 212-443-9999.
Madi sits down with Tim, Facility and Events Supervisor for Athletics and Recreation who comes to NYU via the McLendon Leadership Initiative. The purpose of the MLI is to provide minorities a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship.
Tim shares with us his journey thus far, his role here at NYU, and how the foundation has provided career and life-changing opportunities for him.
Assistant Equipment Room Manager Mark Weatherup Jr. and Athletic Trainer Roy Flores sit down for a conversation around mental health with women’s soccer sophomore Kelli Keady. The trio discuss what are some of the most difficult things first-year and sophomore students must adjust to during the early stages of their undergraduate career, small intricacies that are sometimes overlooked in one’s college experience (such as “offboarding”), and the different types of help that support staff can offer. They then delve into some of the resources that the Department of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation offer. These include New York University’s Student Health Center - more specifically the mention of Yatrika Bir - a clinical social worker who is made available to those in Athletics that are seeking an outlet to speak with, and the Wellness Exchange 24/7 Hotline which can be reached at 212-443-9999.
