In the past year, I have had to take various leaves of absence from teaching... This episode is a recount of the reasons I took leave, the feelings I had about those 'breaks' and the comments that should never be made to someone who has to or has chosen to take time off work.
In this episode, I talk about some of the many events that led me to taking an entire month of medical leave. I also talk about what stress leave looked like for me, because it was not at all what I was expecting. Eventually, I share my mental health wisdom and a couple little notes on self-care. I hope you enjoy.
Re-release.
With teachers in Alberta, and elsewhere, returning to school in a really uncertain time, I thought I would re-release this episode that was recorded earlier this year. Students (and teachers) now maybe more than ever - need some routine, some grounding and some time to be present - in this episode Amber tells me how to incorporate simple mindfulness activities into the classroom that even the 'coolest' students will buy-in to.

I was able to attend the 2021 Child Mental Health Conference. The sessions were incredible, and I wanted to share some of my take-aways.
The sessions highlighted are:
Mental Health First Aid for Educators
Truth and Reconciliation with Eddy Robinson
Resiliency with Dr Michael Ungar
Talking to children/youth about racism
Body Image with Dr. Lexie and Lindsay Kite
In this short episode, I talk about how I am taking advantage of my winter break, as well as share answers to some questions I asked on instagram.
In this episode, I talk about where I have been and why the podcast has taken a little bit of a hiatus. I also provide an update on teaching a new grade, new curricular expectations and the gaps in learning caused by the pandemic.
