Episode 29 has dropped and we are clearly making friends this week! What if a high school in a predominantly Muslim community in the US was called Osama Bin Laden High School? Would you send you children there?  James, Brad and David discuss this explosive question and reflect on our own preference for Americanized names and gut reaction to any name connected with extremist Muslim terrorism.  We explore why so many of us have an immediate visceral reaction to the name and how that plays into our nationalism as a country.  Why are we ok with schools and monuments named after Confederate leaders but not Muslim ones? Does freedom of religion truly exist in this country, or are there glaring limits to this freedom? With the creation of Jim Crow Laws, lynching, and the countless policies and barriers poured out on our black brothers and sisters, why is this country so quick to forget our own participation in terror against the black community, fighting to keep their status as second class citizens?

Dan Hahn is an middle school principal, educator, Oklahoman, and hip hop artist in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the stage name Algebra. In this episode he shares how life led him towards teaching and mentoring students, listening to his students, and re-framing the institution our students learn and grow in. Episode 25 features our good friend Jake Krumwiede of Claremore, OK.
