In breathless anticipation of forthcoming Australian state and federal elections (!), we despair about our politicians, their policies and their recent bouts of bad behavior as politics gets dirty.
We recognise the first use of insulin in Canada in January 1922 and wonder about the scientific zeal expended to make this critical development of modern medicine.
We learn that our discarded and surplus clothing and fashion items are no longer needed by third world for wearing or recycling – these items have no residual value because newly produced clothing is available cheaply, as the standard of living in these countries improves.
Air pollution from industrial output can be obvious but we don’t have regard for the pollution from our plastic world which ends up in the sea. We report on an octopus in Manly which has a passion for plastic drinking straws.
We celebrate birthdays of Australian gay activist Peter Tatchell now based in UK, Ellen Degeneres US actor & TV host (married to Australian Portia de Rossi), and HIV+ Olympic diver Greg Louganis.
Listen to these stories and more, with some merriment – presented by Chris, Gordon & Phil.
First broadcast on 23 January 2018
