At the last supper, Jesus gave new meaning to the Passover meal. The next day He was crucified at about the time the Passover lambs were being sacrificed at the Jerusalem Temple. There is tremendous meaning behind both events. The sacrifice of the Passover lamb was a symbol for mankind’s future salvation while Jesus on the cross was the fulfillment of that salvation. In a recent survey, Sociologist George Barna listed the top 6 reasons young people leave the church. Reason #1 was that the Churches seem overprotective. Young people saw that the church’s approach to the ideas of the culture was fear-based and risk-averse. Instead of engaging the ideas churches demonize everything outside of the church and avoid the ideas of the culture. Young people want to know if their faith in Christ can stand up to the challenge of opposing ideas. Is your church equipped for this task?
