Evil Speech

In this episode, I discuss how evil speech creates chaos in your life and the importance of using your words intentionally to uplift and inspire others.

After recording this podcast, I stumbled upon some research on complaining and its implications for the brain (of course, right?). The below is copied and pasted from ChatGPT about the effects of complaining.

  • Shrinks the hippocampus: Complaining for as little as 30 minutes a day can shrink the hippocampus, which impairs problem-solving abilities.
  • Increases stress hormones: The act of complaining floods the bloodstream with cortisol, the stress hormone, which can lead to chronic anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and other physical health issues.
  • Rewires for negativity: Through neuroplasticity, the brain adapts to the repeated release of cortisol from complaining. This strengthens neural pathways, making it easier to focus on problems and harder to think positively or find solutions.
  • Damages the prefrontal cortex: Chronic negativity can also shrink the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for focus, decision-making, and emotional regulation.
  • Encourages negative social circles: Complaining can create a feedback loop where you seek out others who also complain, reinforcing a negative mindset and social circle.
