Ep21: Brad Pitt and the Nightmare on Tom Cruise Street

Welcome back to EYE! Join us as we explain and thoroughly complain about Interview with the Vampire… the cinematic, uh, hype, from 1994. “There’s nothing pensive about Brad Pitt…” and yet, come, friends, let us tell you why we sympathize! Warning - this is a Nandor the Relentless stan account, and not a Tom Cruise fan account.

S/o to Meredith Bull for her haunting cover on TikTok of Bullet with Butterfly Wings by the Smashing Pumpkins!!

Yeah... 'tainted lore' says it all. Join us this week as we DISSECT the history of the modern, Western concept of a Vampire. We nod briefly toward Bram Stoker, but dig far much deeper and also, travel by night across the globe to learn about some other blood suckers.

Content warning - disturbing themes, Halloween

Ep 19: Dante’s Whole and Swole Song of Fire and Ice

Welcome back to EYE! Join us as we hash it out over our September novel, "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Let’s just say, the nomenclature was indeed accurate. Bonus content — we heard the book is turning into a Hulu show, so we saved the casting directors some trouble and picked out our main cast!

Ep 18: The Mentally Metal Gymnastics of Repurposed Goths

Welcome back to EYE! We're loudly greeting Spooky Szn this September with our book of the month, "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Today’s Prep-isode (get it…?) will spotlight several crucial elements to enrich and support your reading of "Mexican Gothic" along with us. Moreno-Garcia’s gothic horror novel is an onion of dark symbolism with parallels to disturbing historical truths. Check out this episode to reveal the Word(s) of the Month, motifs and symbols, and our really chaotic dissection of the main characters’ names. Is the nomenclature accurate?!

It’s Book Prep Week! This week we spotlight the late, great poet Sylvia Plath, author of our book of the month: The Bell Jar. Plath’s tumultuous and short life serves as the resource from which she pulled the content of this novel, which we discuss today. Word of the Week (Month?) is also back today, with a dark twist and a root word that accidentally serves as a motif throughout the discussion.

Stay tuned for our next episode, our deep dive into and underneath The Bell Jar.

Episode 11: Yup, Halle Bailey is our Princess!

MerMAYd’s main event has finally arrived: Our review of the live action Little Mermaid!! Thank you for all your support throughout this month. We’ve had so much interacting with you and making content for this momentous event!

“For the First Time”, we are reporting to you from one square in a new magical location, so please excuse any random sounds you may hear. One aspect we need to address is that we didn’t spend enough time discussing Halle Bailey. To be honest, if we did, the episode would’ve ended up being 3 hours. Just know, Halle is a gem, and she is our Little Mermaid.

Now, was this movie filled with “Wild Uncharted Waters”? Or did we dance “Under the Sea” with enjoyment? Grab your dinglehoppers and snarfblatts as we give you “the Scuttlebutt”!

Comment below how you felt about the movie!
