Alicia DeCastro, Founder of Fundati Coffee, closed one door at her corporate job in San Francisco only to open two more. After getting her yoga teacher training, she recognized the importance of implementing mindfulness exercises daily for even the non-yogis. She had always had a passion for coffee and the vacant space next to her yoga studio sparked an idea – can coffee brewing and grinding being a meditative experience? From there the ideas and actionable steps led her to where she is now. Fundati has evolved into a virtual movement of people recognizing that simple, mundane rituals such as making coffee can be meditative. The Rhode Island location customizes your coffee experience right down to the bean which they grind in front of you.
To support Fundati you can help give them a boost as they open by ordering coffee beans on their website or stopping in if you are in the Rhode Island area! Another awesome way to support their mission is to follow Fundati on Facebook and Instagram.
In this episode, I sat down with Carter Edwards, the Youth Internship Program Project Manager at Green Heart Project, a farm-to-school non-profit based in Charleston, SC with the mission to grow, celebrate and eat food. After majoring in public health, Carter discovered her passion for food education when eating at a farm-to-table restaurant that sourced all its produce locally from Green Heart. Her life aligned with an internship and then a full-time job with them. Since then, she has helped grow their internship program, giving students the opportunity to build an urban farm, further their food education and develop lifelong culinary and life skills.
Crosby Melendi, a recent graduate and digital marketing specialist felt trapped in what seemed to be her "dream agency job." She had always been told that this was where she should be. Inspired by her family's decision to move to the Netherlands when she was young and her trip to Seville, Spain in college, she decided to walk away from it all to pursue the digital nomad life. Since then, she has established her freelance career and takes to solo traveling full-time living out of her Jeep, and house-hopping. Creating the life she wanted wasn't easy, but by believing in herself she continues to evolve.
Previously a leading event planner for Her Campus Media in Boston, Kayla Hoey, got let go from her full-time job and decided to pursue her passion for wedding planning. In order to stand out in a saturated market, she has capitalized on the concept of micro-weddings for couples who want to express their love in an eccentric and eclectic, yet quaint way.
In this episode, Valerie Cardenas shares her story of personal and professional growth on leaving a top tier agency corporate job in NYC to start her own creative agency in Atlanta, GA. Since then, she has been teaching herself the importance of spirituality, balance and passion.
