Jodelle Oliver Lee is the name used in my first Broadway show “The Happy Time”, with Robert Goulet and Gower Champion as Choreographer. Jody played Annabelle Bonnard his niece and costar. They also used Jodelle Oliver as her name on the billings’.

Where did the name Jody Oliver come from? Her name was changed again in her second Broadway show “Lenny” and has stuck ever since. She had one of the biggest comebacks in history “The Happy Time” was in 1968. Now, in 2015, she’s getting back up on stage which is a feet onto itself. In 2010 she slipped and fell on the ice in front of a bagel shop in New York and had a total hip replacement, resulting in physical therapy and the whole works. That is extremely hard when you were a trained ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop, and ballroom dancer. Not a stranger to injury she has transformed herself from a stage performer to a stand-up comedian during a period in time that she was unable to act or dance.

In 1989, Lilli was diagnosed with a rare blood and muscle disease called Eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. Her blood tests revealed symptoms of leukemia, lupus, trichinosis, and hepatitis.

In her words:

“I had muscle pain and tenderness, tremendous fatigue, and unusual skin rashes. I had 23 years of prior experience in the field of nutrition, had never been sick…and I was now bed ridden. It was very frightening to know that my body was out of control. This disease was actually caused by a contaminated product from the health food store. One thousand five hundred Americans from the east coast to the west coast were poisoned. Many of them died and others remain invalids. The medical association offered them no hope or help.”

Lilli has spent over 30 years studying and speaking on nutrition and disease. When stricken personally by a rare blood disease, Lilli had yet another chance to put into practice the principles she had shared so often with others, and to testify once again of their effectiveness.

Rev. Kirk began her venture as a shelter provider early in life by adopting several neighborhood children. Her energy and dedication to the service of God established her being named the “mother of Englewood”.

She is a pertinent source of hope in Chicago’s Englewood Community. Her tenacity to fight for others in her community contributed to the creation of Clara’s House Shelter, a landmark symbol of life and the paramount instinct to live.

Previously, as an employee for the Chicago Public Schools Robert Fulton Elementary School, on a daily basis Rev. Kirk would complete her duties at the school, then arrive at Clara’s House and begin daily operations.

Each year in the month of November, she personally dedicates a day to feed and clothe the homeless. She lovingly shares her remaining can and dry goods with seniors that she knows are living alone and have inadequate or no source of income. Additionally, as a CAPS and Beat Representative, Rev. Kirk would diligently serve many hours at block and community meetings in high crime areas.

As a domestic violence program advocate, she works adamantly to retain and improve the domestic violence program at the various shelter sites.

Phyllis was born in Crisfield, Maryland, May 24, 1949. I lived in Crisfield for fifteen years before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I finished my education at William Penn High School for Girls in 1967. I worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Welfare from 1976 to 2007 with a break in service for approximately three and one half years due to an on the job back and head injury. My hobbies are writing poems, poetry and songs; singing, bowling and photography.
