The School of Public Affairs presents "Executive Transitions: Learning from Leaders," the inaugural conference announcing the establishment of the Center for Nonprofit Strategy and Management, Baruch College, School of Public Affairs. The conference is co-sponsored by National Urban Fellows & United Way of New York City.


David Birdsell, Dean, School of Public Affairs makes the welcoming remarks. Paula Gavin, President, National Urban Fellows and James Krauskopf, Distinguished Lecturer and Director, Center for Nonprofit Strategy and Management share their perspectives on executive transitions. Richard Brown, Vice President, Philanthropy, American Express, discusses leadership from a funders' point of view.


Two panels of experienced top nonprofit executives discuss their career paths, what they have learned, and their advice to aspiring leaders.


The first panel discussion is moderated by Joseph Cruickshank, former Director, Baruch College, School of Public Affairs, Nonprofit Group. Panelists include:

Theresa Bischoff, CEO, American Red Cross in Greater New York;

Sister Paulette LoMonaco, Executive Director, Good Shepherd Services;

Lillian Rodriguez Lopez, President, Hispanic Federation;

David Jones, President and CEO, Community Service Society;

Ruth Messinger, President, American Jewish World Service;


The second panel discussion is moderated by Frederick Lane, Professor of Public Administration and Nonprofit Management, Baruch College, School of Public Affairs. Panelists include:

Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, CEO, Safe Space;

Ronna D. Brown, President, New York Regional Association of Grantmakers;

Lucy Cabrera, President and CEO, Food Bank for New York City;

Darwin Davis, President, New York Urban League;

Linda Selvin, Executive Director of the New York Branch of the International Dyslexia Association Inc.


Gordon J. Campbell, President and CEO, United Way of New York City, delivers the closing speech, followed by questions & answers.


The event takes place on December 6, 2007, at the Newman Conference Center, Room 750.
