My guest today is like the fitness industry’s OG OG, blazing fiery hot trails in the fitness space for well over two decades and impacting the lives and bodies of tens of thousands of humans worldwide. Patricia Moreno grew up with her fair share (and really, an extra share) of weight struggles and found fitness to be the greatest catalyst of change. She quickly rose to the top of the world HEY!, and dominated the fitness scene, only to find herself in a deeper struggle with her body image than ever before. Thanks to many epiphanies and the patience to take a long and winding road, Patricia found herself in a new world: the world of spiritual fitness. She created her signature workout called IntenSati which is a groundbreaking way to sweat that combines high energy cardio, mindfulness, meditation and the power of yelling out positive things which has proven time and time again to legit bring out participant’s inner badass best selves. In the same way that somebody once combined peanut butter and jelly to make a flavor combination arguably more desirable than sex, and in the same way another person combined a leggings with jeans to give our fashion-forward legs some freedom, my guest today has combined metaphysics with physical fitness in a way that can pretty much most def help you get things that you desire. Erin Stutland has created a method of combining movement with mindfulness in an actually do-able, not too woowoo-able way. Erin is an author of the upcoming book “Mantras In Motion: Manifesting What You Want Through Mindful Movement,” a fitness coach and creator of the Shrink Session program, the TV show host of Z Living’s cable series, Altar’d, all about true and lasting transformation. I’ve gotta say that this here chat with Erin has had a true and lasting impact on me. Kind of like how once you discover how harmoniously PB&J go together, or once you try on jeggings, you can’t UNtaste PB&J or smile as you put on regular jeans, after hearing Erin’s strategies for paying attention to what the heckers you say to yourself while you’re working out, you won’t be able to NOT sweet talk yourself through your next sweat sesh.

My guest today is a survivor, speaker, activist and storyteller. She’s a wearer of many hats. Which we get deep into in this chat. This is also a deep chat in many other ways because my guest and darling friend Brittany Piper has overcome not just one, but many of the most horrific events any of us could imagine: sexual assault, eating disorders, the death of her brother and alcoholism. Brittany, not to sound cliche, turned her pain into purpose and is now a leading national expert speaker on sexual violence and prevention, as well as a healing and wellness coach. She uses her story of adversity, resilience and triumph to empower and inspire women to take brave action in their own lives and communities and she uses her story of trauma to inspire me in this interview to OWN my own stories even more than I already own my own stories, and I hope she inspires you in this chat to own yours too. You’ll hear a little about my journey from sad girl dreading her eventual wedding day because she’d be too depressed, bloated or sick to enjoy it to a happy lady who just had her wedding day feeling more calm, healthy and confident than she ever could’ve imagined. Through it, I’ve learned that eating more plants than you do crap is a complete game-changer, as is prioritizing stress reduction over everything else, all while being as authentic and confidently YOURSELF as humanly possible. I’d say that’s the magic sauce. The secret sauce? MMM sauce, now i’m craving that butternut squash sauce on the gnocchi at the wedding…...

But couldn’t come! Which was very sad. Because I had GREAT clean food waiting for her. But she still gifted jesse and me a beautiful wooden salad bowl. Hey! I never know proper etiquette….Anyway, Terry Walters, who just so happened to be my neighbor growing up, was one of the OG “clean eaters.” Her first book, “Clean Food” came out waaaaay before “clean” related to food in any way other than sanitary! But “clean eating” has since turned into a vague, trendy, confusing, catch-all phrase, right? Well in this episode, I egg Terry on to lay down the law about what clean eating REALLY is (and really isn’t), so you don’t have to keep hearing stuff from the organic grapevine. Not only is it one of the top downloaded episodes of my show, and for damn good reason, but it specifically talks about a life altering epiphany that happens ON A HONEYMOON! I know, right?!?! Told you this chat would be a perfect one. But perfect isn’t really the goal anymore because this episode is all about how my guest, Simi Botic, used to let her need for perfection actually ruin a lot of great big events in her life like her proposal (which we talk about) and her honeymoon (which we also talk about) by giving way too many craps about her body. Simi freaks out a lot less now since she broke up with perfection, and in this chat, we dive alllll the way into how she did that and what the heck breaking up with perfection even means! This isn’t an arbitrary conversion, by the way, helping give up perfectionism about their diet and exercise is exactly what Simi does for a living! In addition to being a coach, Simi wrote a magnificent, hilarious and heartfelt book called Letting Go of Leo, which is truly so good that one night I delayed watching The Bachelor to read Simi’s book in bed which is the highest compliment I could give a book so there you go Simi.
