God's mercy is not a bonanza or free-for-all. While God is merciful, He is also just. His mercy is freely given, but only to a few. In fact, only one man is both called and chosen: Jesus Christ. But for Him we might be called yet never chosen.

God’s foreknowledge of each believer ensures that grace can be effective in the specific circumstances of our lives. Are we seeking purpose and integration in something other than God’s plan for us?

Christ inaugurates the day when all creation is set free from futility. Christ's resurrection means that a redeeming force and people are now at work in history. Christ's people are set free — unleashed — to be effective in all aspects of life. Many will argue that human nature is changeable. Paul says it is not, except when it is Christ Jesus who effects the change.
