New data has revealed that over 3000 firearms were reported stolen in the past five years, and more than 2000 remain unaccounted for in Queensland.
There are around one million firearms legally registered in the state.
Associate Professor of criminology at Bond University, Dr Terry Goldsworthy, told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "I don't think it's got more relaxed. I mean, if you look at Australia."
"I was writing a book chapter on the militarisation of our police and our ownership of firearms in Australia sits at about, you know, 15 firearms per 100 head of population."
You compare that to the US. They sit at about 120 firearms per 100 head of population. So we're still far off what the US has got," Dr Goldsworthy continued.
