Exploding Head Movies

A tribute to Sir Roger Moore (1927-2017), the stylish British actor and humanitarian who most famously played James Bond through the 1970s and 1980s. Along with a sample of some of the music from his 007 Bond films, we'll listen to selections from 2 of his television series: The Saint and The Persuaders.

A long overdue memorial to two greats in the Finnish avantgarde music scene: Erkki Kurenniemi (1941-2017) ja Mika Vainio (1963-2017). Both relied on homemade electronics to come up with weird sounds. Vainio was one half of Pan (a) Sonic. We have two scores from Vainio ja Pan Sonic: Mannerlaatta and Atomin Paluu. We also touch upon the upcoming Music Waste festival in Vancouver: June 1-4.

Lining up almost nicely with the 37th anniversary of the launch of NASA's Apollo 13 mission, we listen to selections from James Horner's score to the 1995 film adaptation. Amongst its stars was actor Bill Paxton (1955-2017), who was also active in music. We also pay tribute to Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi (1930-2017) and one of his most important instruments, the TR-808.
