Welcome back to Explorers Guild! I’m your host Leah, and I’m here to let you in on the story of some of the best game franchises out there at the moment… in my opinion. So maybe if you’re looking for a refresher, a familiar story to listen to, or you’re just curious about a game you haven’t had chance to play, this is for you! There will of course be spoilers, and I won’t be covering absolutely every detail here in this short podcast, but if something piques your curiosity it’s a game I’d wholeheartedly recommend playing… or at least watching a playthrough of online!
Over the past few years, Sony has been knocking it out of the park with their exclusive story based titles, beautiful cinematic games with unique and interesting premises, and the 2017 release from Guerrilla Games, Horizon Zero Dawn, was no exception. You might have seen a few images from the game, notably the cover art showing our fierce red-headed protagonist battling a… huge robotic dinosaur creature.
In this podcast we'll talk through the entire story from start to finish.

Glossary of terms
Doppler – Shapeshifters of sorts who can mimic man or beast. Naturally rather hideous, but their shapeshifting skills are exceptional. They are naturally gentle and kind.
Djinn – being that can grant 3 wishes, much like genies. No take-backsies.
Witcher- A person who has trained and developed physically via the use of Mutagens to become an effective monsterslayer for hire. Longer life spans, accelerated healing and disease resistance, but sterile with cat like eyes.
Sorceress – Woman educated in magic, doomed to madness unless their latent powers are harnessed and controlled. Study in various schools on the continent and have political influence.
Continent – The land in which the events of the series mostly take place. There are other areas beyond the continent mentioned but they aren’t visited.
Skellige – Nordic inspired islands set off to the east of the mainland. Ruled by Jarls.
Rivia – Small kingdom in the North west mountains.
Novigrad – Free city on the North West area of the continent, within Redania but not ruled by it. Major port, very busy and one of the biggest cities on the continent.
Temeria – A Kingdom in the North, not particularly strong, ruled by Foltest until his assassination, for which Geralt was wrongly blamed.
Redania – Very wealthy Northern Kingdom containing Novigrad. Ruled by King Radovid. Largely at war with Nilfgaard.
Radovid – King Radovid rules over Redania, succeeding his father, Vizimir, who was assassinated. Strong hatred for mages as he correctly suspects one mage, Phillipa Eilhart, advisor to the throne, was to blame for his fathers death.
Nilfgaard – Empire based in the South of the Continent, set on the domination of the continent, pushing into the North. Particularly disliked by the Northern Kingdoms, Nilfgaard is industrial and economic.
Emperor Emhyr – Ruler of Nilfgaard by blood. His father, Fergus, previous ruler, was murdered in a political coup and Emhyr forced to flee. He took on the alias Duny and through destiny or otherwise, married Princess Pavetta of Cintra, who birthed their child, Cirilla. Power called his name, and he plotted to return to the South, killing his wife and abandoning his daughter in the process, but succeeding in reclaiming his throne. Now rules ruthlessly and intelligently, and after turbulent years, tries to look out for Cirilla.
Aen Elle – A race of Elves inhabiting another world, with long life spans and natural power. At war with unicorns on their home planet, due to the elves harmful intentions.
Aen Sidhe – A race of Elves that once inhabited the continent but have since been driven to near extinction.
Conjunction of the Spheres – an event occurring 1500 years ago that clashed worlds together, bringing humans to the continent… alongside other monsters. Thought to be cyclical.
Lodge of Sorceresses – A group of the most powerful Sorceresses in the continent, coming together to use their positions to influence the politics in the land. Formerly the Brotherhood, who were all but slaughtered in the coup of Thanedd.
Source – One who is born with considerable power within themselves, who must learn to control it.

Have you had a gander at the Witcher Netflix series and wondered how it all ties into the game universe? Or maybe you've played through The Witcher series but you're still curious about some of the history and stories the iconic characters are involved in?
In this podcast we look at the story right from the beginning, following Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri's journeys all the way up to the end of the Witcher 3, asking what exactly is a Witcher? Why is Ciri so special? and why is Emhyr such a tw*t?
(Note: I was suffering with some intense congestion while recording this for some reason, sorry if I sound stuffy!)
This is part 1 of 2.

In this episode we explore the origins and journey of the Lich King, the fearsome being that held Azeroth in its frosty grip for many years.
We rehash some of the early events of Sargeras and Kil'Jaeden, and the inception of the Horde on Draenor, so if you've heard this before and want to skip the new stuff starts around 6 minutes in! I left it in for anyone who hasn't listened to the previous episodes.
(and on a personal note: This started as a passion project and as I write and record each podcast the way I tell stories is evolving - originally I intended a casual chat vibe but as time goes on i'm looking forward to settling into telling a story as well as I can. So bear with me as I learn and improve my skills and style throughout this series!)

In Episode 3 we weave our way through the expansive history of the Old and New Horde, starting at the beginning and finishing with their current state. I've tried to do the story of the Horde justice here and hope you enjoy listening to this romp through pre-WoW storylines and through the major expansions so you can get a basic understanding of who and what the Horde are.
Topics covered: Tainting of the Orcs, Portal through to Azeroth, Thrall, Orgrim Doomhammer and Grommash Hellscream, Durotar and Orgrimmar, Garrosh's bloodlust and Sylvanas as Warchief... with some bits inbetween.
Thank you for listening!

In this episode we look into a huge part of the World of Warcraft story, the faction called the Alliance. Why are they called the Alliance, what was the Alliance's origins and who are some of the main characters you'll see throughout the story?
This podcast provides an overview for anyone curious about the basics of The Alliance's backstory. It is recommended that you watch the WoW: introduction video (the first in the series, 20 mins long) to get an insight into the universe as a whole.

World of Warcraft is one of the biggest games in the world, and with over 15 years having passed since the MMORPG we know today was released, the story has evolved significantly.
If you've ever had a passing interest in the game, maybe played a bit yourself and want a refresher on the story, this is for you! This first pilot episode is a brief overview of the current widely reaching storyline, about the Titans, Old Gods and demons, and how they fit into the wars on Azeroth.
