Ephesians Chapter two unveils the PAST STATE, former background, the realm of death, from which the church has been brought forth. 

Chapter one describes the PRESENT STATE and how glorious the Church and a Christian is. 

Chapter 2 began with our state before we met Christ.

Ephesians 2:1 (NKJV) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,  Being 'dead' means that we lost the ability to connect and contact God. We were alienated from our Source, no matter how active we were in our souls and body, our spirit (the real-you) was dead.  Ephesian Chapter 2 outline:
