The High School Computer Competition (HSCC) program was founded in 1986 by Dr. Jesse Bemley, of Washington, D.C. What started as a two-team event between the Washington, D.C. chapter and the Atlanta, GA chapter has grown to over 20 teams of high school students from chapters across the nation. It's all designed to introduce our students to the field of Information Technology, encourage them to seek higher levels of education, and groom many of them to become our next generation of IT professionals. As a part of the Atlanta HSCC program, high school students gather each Saturday from January to August to develop expertise in creating web applications. The program curriculum focuses on the following web languages:HTMLCSSSQL/MySQL DatabasePHPParticipating students will also learn public speaking skills, how to create and develop presentations, time management skills, how to set and achieve goals and working in a team environment. The top 3 to 5 students of the local program will be selected to receive an all-expense paid trip to compete at the BDPA National Conference. Once at the National Conference, students will be able to attend workshops and seminars covering topics related to personal and academic development, youth entrepreneurship and I.T.. They will be able to participate in activities including - corporate sponsored luncheons/receptions, visits to educational places in the hosting city i.e musuems, and networking events with IT professionals and students from around the country. Also, they get to showcase their talents in the National Competition which consists of a timed computerized written exam, oral questions and the development of a web application per specifications. Students will have the opportunity to win up to $2,500 in scholarships at the competition. Participant must be entering the 9th - 12th grade during August or graduating from high school the year of the competition.

Jon Gosier is an African-American software developer, investor, and philanthropist. He was named as one of Ten African Tech Voices to Follow on Twitter by CNN and one of the 25 most influential African-Americans in Technology by Business Insider. He was awarded a TED Fellowship in 2009 and later named a TED Senior Fellow.  Jon is Knight News Challenge award winner forAbayima which makes crisis communications technology for disasters. In 2013 Gosier was nominated as one of three Innovators of the Year by Black Enterprise Magazine for his work with data startup MetaLayer.

Dr. Juan E. Gilbert is the Presidential Endowed Professor and Chair of the Human-Centered Computing Division in the School of Computing at Clemson University where he leads the Interaction and Information Lab. He is also a National Associate of the National Research Council of the National Academies, an ACM Distinguished Speaker and a Senior Member of the IEEE. Dr. Gilbert was recently named one of the 50 most important African-Americans in Technology.
