Extra Nos Academy

Episode 6 postulates the reality that we perpetually live in the posture of reception.  All that we have, which pertains to life and Godliness, comes from God.  A gift! Baptism is another delivery system whereby Jesus hands us salvation and assurance. This week's reading is from, The Spirituality of the Cross - 3rd Edition by Gene Edward Veith Jr.  In addition,  FLAME listens to and discusses his song, "Read Em All" from his EP, Word And Water. Enjoy!

In episode 5, FLAME walks listeners through the implications of baptism's daily impact. A favorite line from the readings is, "God sent his Spirit to you in your Baptism to do just that--to kill the old Adam in you, to raise up the new you day by day, to keep you and make you what you will be." This episode also visits the popular song from Word And Water, The Patristics. As mentioned, the book containing the curation of quotes from the Apostolic Fathers and the Patristics is titled, What the Bible Teaches About Baptism & How the Earliest Christians
Understood These Biblical Texts by Chris Rosebrough. Enjoy the free download.  http://0352182.netsolhost.com/Baptism%20Texts%20%26%20the%20Earliest%20Christians.pdf

Episode 4 confronts our former way of functioning, known in scripture as the “old Adam.” The sinful flesh refuses to stay quiet as it relates to human efforts, merit, and works based living. It is God Himself who silences the old Adam by gifting us salvation. We can not earn our way into God’s good graces. Baptism is the means whereby God kills the old Adam and raises us to new life, in Christ.

In episode 3 FLAME tackles the reality that baptism is a work of God not a work of human hands. This demonstrated by reading Ephesians 5:25-27 & 1 Peter 3:20-21. He kicks the episode off by visiting his song, He Delivers from the latest EP, Word And Water and explains key portions of the lyrics. Finally, he walks through the next section of the book, Free to Be: A handbook to Luther’s Small Catechism. Happy digging!

FLAME sits down with Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller & Lex Lutheran to discuss the claim that baptism saves. They address difficult questions like: How can baptism save if we are justified by faith? How can infants be saved through baptism if they can't repent and believe? If baptism saves wouldn't that compete with Jesus?

FLAME discusses how to best understand the Extra Nos Series. He list things to avoid and things to consider. Due to most people's generic American understanding of Christianity, we are unfortunately underexposed to what Ancient Christianity is. Therefore, we are limited in experience of all the sweetness of the gospel. FLAME then walks through a portion of the book: Free to Be: A handbook to Luther's Small Catechism. Enjoy!
