This week we review and discuss Twisters, a disaster movie and sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Twister, directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glenn Powell and Anthony Ramos, about stormchasers in Oklahoma who are researching a way to make tornados less deadly.

This week we watched Ridley Scott's Alien from 1979, a classic science fiction horror movie widely regarded as one of the best horror sci fi movies of all time that spawned a franchise that has endured almost 50 years. In the movie the crew of the spaceship Nostromo encounters a deadly extraterrestrial after investigating a mysterious distress signal on a desolate planetoid.

We talk about our reactions to what Alien is like through fresh eyes in 2024, why it holds up and how it realises its themes of alienness and isolation in space where noone can hear you scream, and whether this applies to the upcoming Alien: Romulus.

This week we review and discuss Longlegs, a horror movie directed by Osgood Perkins and starring Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage and Alicia Witt, in which an FBI agent tries to solve a series of satanic murders in the 90s and finds out she has a personal connection to the killer.

Join us for our in depth spoiler review of whether the movie lives up to the praise it has been getting for being the scariest movie of the year so far, and whether its story works. We talk about Nicolas Cage's Cagian performance as Longlegs, how the movie achieves a sense of dread and unease in the viewer, and the importance of endings.
