  • EOT173 Semester at CMAST 10/20/15
    This week on EOT:
    Phian Tran revives our poetry corner with prison poetry from George T. Wilkerson in Central Prison. She reads two poems that he sent to us: “Birth of a Revolution” and “Senseless.”
    An NC State professor is helping lead the maiden voyage of a semester program to the Cackalacky coast. Environmental Sciences professor Dr. Winner will bring a group of students to a semester at C-MAST, the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology, on Bogue Sound in Morehead City. It’s a hands-on program offered to all majors and is now taking applications for next semester. Saba Khan tells us more.
    Jake Winters has a review of the film “Turbo-Kid,” a 2015 Canadian-New Zealand post-apocalyptic action horror comedy film.
    Nick Weaver reviews the newest album from Caravan Palace.
    And as always, Peter Svizeny brings us the Community Calendar and Saif Hassan has the News Beyond the Headlines.

    This week on EOT:
    Diversity Education Week 2015 kicked off on Sunday, October 11th. We are participating by bringing you programming that promotes awareness about cultural enrichment and fosters intercultural understanding.
    Kevin Kronk interviews Dr. Leda Lunardi, a professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, about her experience coming to the United States from Brazil and teaching in a male-dominated field. He also bring us news from around North Carolina.
    Jake Winters has a review of the film “This Is Not a Film,” an Iranian documentary smuggled from Iran to the Cannes film festival in a flash drive hidden inside a birthday cake.
    And as always Saif Hassan has the News Beyond the Headlines and Peter Svizeny brings us the Community Calendar.

    Today is the Raleigh City Council and Mayoral election; I hope you got a chance to vote. This year’s election is being drawn on party lines. Not Democrat or Republican, but continuing the downtown party noise or shutting it down. Mirtha Donastorg brings us the story.
    We also have a review by Jake Winters of the film ”Brief Interviews with Hideous Men.” The film was directed by John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert in “The Office.”

    In anticipation of the City Council elections next week, Tuesday, October 6th, Mirtha Donastorg highlights the voices trying to involve students in politics. New club, Youth Government Association, is a nonpartisan group in Raleigh informing and energizing students. They don’t care what your political opinions are, just that you have them.
    We also have a review by Jake Winters of the 1984 movie “Amadeus”, about the life and death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
    Nick Weaver reviews the Front Bottoms’ fifth studio album “Back on Top”.

    This week on EOT:
    The Wolfpack lost a member of its family last week. Joseph Alexander Banks fell off the eighth floor of Dabney Hall. People gathered together to mourn and remember Joseph the next evening, Tuesday the 15th. Mirtha Donastorg was at the vigil and tells us how the campus community is handling the loss.
    We also have a movie review of “Catch Me Daddy” by Jake Winters and a review of the See Gulls album “You Can’t See Me.”
