In this episode, we are honored to have Professor Paolo Lanzetta, Founder and Scientific Director at European Institute for ocular microsurgery in Udine. Welcome to another Covid-19 special episode of EyePod Bayer!

Today we are going to discuss how the current situation can affect treatment of patients with intravitreal injections and we will refer to a recently published paper in Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology: Guidance for anti-VEGF intravitreal injections during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper was authored by the network Vision Academy, sponsored by Bayer, which is an international group of retinal experts who collaborate to share existing skills and knowledge in retinal diseases.

The recommendations published in the paper were developed during a virtual meeting in March 2020 by the 14-member-Vision Academy Steering Committee. Already available guidance documents for patients receiving intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents during the COVID-19 pandemic were reviewed, debated and summarized in the paper. In only 18 days the manuscript was finalized, submitted and accepted for publication, which probably makes it one of the fastest publications in history!

In this episode, we are honored to have Monica Lövestam-Adrian, Head of the Medical Retina Department at Lund University Hospital and Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at Lund University in Sweden. Monica is one of the members in the Vision Academy Steering Committee and will share her insights of the guidelines with us today.

Vårt samtal idag handlar om barnuveiter med särskilt fokus på JIA-relaterad irit (JIA - Juvenile idiopathic arthritis), och i ett andra avsnitt om Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). Marita Grönlund är en av våra ledande experter på området i Sverige och vi är mycket glada och tacksamma för denna intervju där hon delar sina kunskaper och erfarenheter inom barnoftalmologi.
