This week, we will look at a miracle found in Matthew 14:22–33. Jesus’ disciples find themselves in a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee, stuck in a violent storm. Just when things seem hopeless, that’s when Jesus shows up. Doesn’t it seem that when we experience the toughest and most violent storms in our lives, Jesus shows up at just the right time?

Jesus approaches the disciples by walking on the water. Though they are initially afraid, Jesus reassures them not to fear. Fear is one of the enemy’s greatest tools, often used to intimidate and distract followers of Jesus.

Peter steps out of the boat at Jesus’ invitation, but when he focuses on the wind and waves instead of Jesus, fear causes him to sink. He cries out, “Lord, save me!” Three simple words that God wishes to hear from every person. Jesus immediately catches him, and once they return to the boat, the storm ceases.

In response, the disciples worship Jesus and declare, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Our only proper response when we witness God move is to worship Him with our entire being!
