Ricky Pallay has a great conversation with Determination, Incorporated co-founders Johnny Waller, Jr. & Kyle Smith. A must-listen episode for any aspiring entrepreneurs, as they tackle some little-known wisdom every entrepreneur needs to hear...even if they may not agree.
Johnny Waller, Jr.: Co-Founder of Determination, Incorporated & Chief Strategy Officer
Accomplishments: I have worked in the non-profit field for over a decade in the KC-area. I currently attend Rockhurst University’s Helzberg School of Management and am studying for my Masters in Management with a concentration in organizational leadership and development. And I owned and operated a small janitorial company, Imagaclean Services, for seven years until my oldest son tragically passed away from cancer.
His why: As a teenager, my mother left me with my drug-addicted father and I spent years in and out of gangs, ultimately spending years in prison before entrepreneurship helped me make a dramatic transformation in my life. Having lived a life of crime and success, I have a unique understanding of what it takes to overcome the many barriers ex-offenders face and how to change their life for the better. I believe that through mutual understanding and hope that we all can make a profound positive impact in our community.
Kyle J Smith: Co-Founder of Determination, Incorporated & Chief Storytelling Officer
Accomplishments: I am an entrepreneurial ecosystem builder in Kansas City, Missouri. I worked with KCSourceLink at UMKC Innovation Center for 2+ years, served as a community organizer with 1 Million Cups KC, and currently am a Startup Huddle ambassador with the Global Entrepreneurship network.
His Why: I helped start Determination, Incorporated because I am sickened by the negative effects of over-incarceration on our communities, our families, and us as humans. I believe that we can do better and that entrepreneurship can be a part of the solution.
