I have two major idols as of recent: control and comfort. My Pastor's sermon hit home today because I learned the antidote to all my idols; namely, Jesus. Specifically, believing that Jesus is better.

Parents, ever wonder why you say this? Well, heres what I found. And here's the scariest thing for me: The real issue behind this phrase, "Why did you do that?" is essentially, "why are you showing symptoms of a greater problem? Don't you know that I don't care about you enough to dig deeper beyond your symptoms? stop making noise so I can get back to whatever I was doing?" But nobody has the guts to say that. At least I'm too much of a coward to say that. So, I just stick with, "Why did you do that?" But that ends today... Join the fight against the idol of comfort and control.

I tried to keep this as real as possible, but it was "unusually" calm and cool. Nobody was getting down from the table. Everyone was on their best behavior. ha. When I am not motivated by the all-knowing, all-powerful God, I am often motivated by finite men, who I know will ask me about my heart. As crazy as that sounds, God has been teaching me that there are all sorts of motivation and one is not necessarily better than the other so long as God is glorified in the end. And in this case, He got the glory. I owned my sin, confessed it, and thanked God for the victory.
