Recorded during Family Enrichment Month at First Apostolic Church of Tallmadge, Pastor Bulgrin opens with Psalm 127:1—“Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.” We’re all “under construction,” and the bricks of our homes are the choices, words, priorities, and habits we set every day.
He defines a “healthy” home as one that is sound and thriving:
Physically: strong, functioning as God designed
Mentally & Emotionally: stable, balanced, and able to handle stress with Christ as our anchor
Spiritually: aligned with truth, holiness, and growing faith
Relationally: whole, stable, fruitful, and moving in the right direction
Then he identifies three forces that undermine a home:
Hidden/Unrepented Sin — like termites in the structure (Achan, Joshua 7); sin breaks trust and brings collateral damage.
Carnality & Prayerlessness — “to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6). A prayerless home is a powerless home.
Absence of God — when God isn’t central, confusion and chaos fill the void (Judges 2:10).
The call is practical and hopeful: repent quickly, fathers lead spiritually, guard what enters your home, and invite God’s presence daily. Make prayer, worship, and the Word the culture of your house so your family is built on a firm foundation that will stand in every season.
