Face to Face with Sinners (Us) | Matthew 26:17–30

Listen Later

Be honest—there are people you would never invite to sit with you at the dinner table. People who’ve hurt you. Lied about you. Betrayed you. People you don’t trust. People you avoid.

Now here’s the uncomfortable truth: That’s exactly who Jesus chose to eat with.

We begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday and step into the final meal before the cross—and the guest list is shocking. Around that table? A betrayer. A denier. A group of men who would abandon Him within hours.

And Jesus knows it. He doesn’t cancel dinner. He doesn’t call them out and walk away. He serves them and that’s the tension we’ll wrestle with:

- Jesus doesn’t avoid sinners—He sits with them.

- Jesus doesn’t ignore sin—He confronts it with grace and truth.

- Jesus doesn’t wait for you to be worthy—He meets you where you are.

And this is what the Lord’s Supper and Holy Week show us - the great need that we have as sinners and the great love Jesus has for us!

But here’s the miracle at the center of it all: “For you, for the forgiveness of sins.” Not just back then. Not just for them. For you.

The table is set—and it’s not for the people who have it all together, it’s for sinners.

The sermon entitled "Face to Face with Sinners (Us)" was preached by Senior Pastor Tim Glende at CrossWalk Church as part of the "Face to Face" message series.
