Face to Face with the Afraid | Matthew 14:22-33

Listen Later

What do you do when you are afraid?

Most of us instinctively respond in one of three ways: we fight, we run, or we freeze. Fear has a way of isolating us, overwhelming us, and making even strong faith feel small.

The disciples knew that feeling well.

In Matthew 14, they were battling a storm in the middle of the night when something even more terrifying appeared—someone walking toward them on the water. In that moment of fear and confusion, Jesus spoke words that still echo to fearful hearts today:

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Notice what Jesus didn’t do first.

He didn’t immediately stop the storm.

He didn’t explain everything that was happening.

Instead, He gave them something better—His presence.

We’ll look at what happens when the afraid come face to face with Jesus. We’ll discover how fear can shift into faith, and why the presence of Christ changes everything—even when the storm is still raging.

If fear has been creeping into your heart lately, this message is for you.

The sermon entitled "Face to Face with the Afraid" was preached by Pastor Dan Solofra at CrossWalk Church as part of the "Face to Face" message series.
