Welcome back to Season 2 of the Face Crime Skin Lab Podcast! We’re starting the season with a very special guest—Dr. Kuczma, a colleague and someone I deeply respect. In this episode, we talk about her incredible journey from over ten years of practice in naturopathic medicine to discovering her passion for aesthetic treatments.

Dr. Kuczma worked extensively in primary care, focusing on patients with autoimmune conditions and chronic diseases. She witnessed firsthand the struggles of those who were often unsupported by the conventional medical system, and the work was emotionally intense. Over time, this took a significant toll on her, as the weight of seeing patients suffer through severe symptoms became more difficult to bear.

When COVID hit, the clinic Dr. Kuczma worked at was one of the only ones in the area that stayed open. During this time, the clinic became a primary care provider for many people in the community. It was a challenging and controversial period, as naturopathic medicine faced growing scrutiny, and alternative treatment methods were being silenced. Despite the difficulties, Dr. Kuczma and her team continued to provide care day in and day out.

After experiencing burnout from working with chronic disease, Dr. Kuczma decided to explore a new avenue: aesthetic medicine. What began as a way to improve her own skin quickly blossomed into a full-time passion. The shift was not only professionally rewarding but also personally transformative, helping her feel healthier and happier. In this episode, Dr. Kuczma shares how the transition to aesthetics became clear as the right move forward for her career and overall well-being.

In this episode, we’re joined by the incredible Hannah Eickmeyer, a skincare expert who turned her biggest insecurity—her skin—into her life’s work. Struggling with severe acne from a young age, Hannah tried everything: Accutane, birth control, antibiotics, retinol—you name it. As a teenager, she was even prescribed birth control before her first period to manage her acne, which was the only solution her doctor offered.

But after years of battling acne with little success and facing relentless stress on her mental health, Hannah had her breakthrough when she visited a naturopath. Unlike her previous doctors, the naturopath truly listened and conducted hormone testing, checked her blood work, and did a food sensitivity test. This holistic approach took a massive weight off her shoulders, especially for her mental well-being, as acne can feel incredibly isolating and draining.

Hannah quickly realized her acne was caused by internal imbalances, and no expensive external treatment or prescription would solve it. Now, with years of experience at some of Vancouver's best spas, she always advises her clients to look within, often recommending naturopathic solutions as part of their skincare journey.
