To celebrate 100 episodes of the podcast (plus bonus episodes/writings on patreon!), Chase and Breht from Revolutionary Left Radio discuss mysticism and the maoist method of criticism and self-criticism. In the end we connect our religious and spiritual traditions (Buddhist mysticism and Christianity) to this method forged through revolutionary struggle.

Marxist scholar of Biblical Studies and Religion, Christina Petterson, joins us to discuss her essay "Apostles of Revolution? Marxism and Biblical Studies". We discuss the ways in which historical materialism is fundamental for correctly analyzing the conditions and contradictions in which the scriptures were produced, how both the scriptures and historical interpretations (including our own) are products of class struggle, how the 19th and 20th century international communist movement greatly influenced the field of biblical studies, how ideological struggle has shaped analysis and interpretations of the scriptures, early Christian communism, and the role religion and biblical study/interpretation tend to play (or alternatively could play) in today's struggle between capitalism and communism, colonialism and decolonization.

This episode is the first of a three-part series on a section from Dorothee Soelle's book in The Silent Cry: Mysticism and Resistance. For this series, Chase will read and reflect upon a section of the text from the chapter "Possession and Possessionlessness" in which Soelle engages a particular Christian's life, faith, and practice. In part one, we read about and reflect upon Francis of Assisi through the eyes of Soelle!
Parts 2 and 3 will soon release at patreon.com/faithandcapital and will cover Quaker abolitionist, John Woolman, and Catholic anarchist, Dorothy Day.

Lucha joins us to discuss parenting, body autonomy, how he came to believe Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) should be a right for people who struggle with terminal illness and chronic pain, and the spiritual resources he pulls from to fuel his commitment to liberation.
