1. Read through Genesis 37-50 in one sitting. What does God do with Joseph and why does he allow him to suffer? How does Joseph respond to his circumstances?

2. Suffering is one of the ways God equips us for his purposes (James 1:2-4). What can we learn from Jesus as he faced his own suffering (1 Peter 2:21-23; Hebrews 5:7-8)?

3. Notice the repeated phrase "the Lord was with Joseph" (39:2,3,21,23) in slavery and prison. How have you experienced the presence of God in your life in a time of suffering?
