Paul finishes his first paragraph with a deep expression of affection for the Philippians. He sees them accurately and truthfully, he is sincere, and he allows Christ’s affections for the Philippians to freely flow through himself to these precious believers.

Loving other people, even other Christians, can be difficult at times--but we can learn to thank God for them, remembering that God is not finished with us yet.
