Small group questions:
1.) What comes to mind when you think of Jesus as a “secret shopper” in a church?
2.) Jesus left all the churches with hope even if they were corrected. Do you agree?
3.) Every church in error had the opportunity to remember, repent, and return. How do you do that?
4.) What were some promises given to “overcomers”?
5.) What do you think being an overcomer consists of?
6.) Jesus told the persecuted church in Smyrna to be faithful unto death. That is quite a challenge. How is it possible for a believer to do that?
7.) Jesus corrected the church in Thyatira for tolerating false doctrine and false prophets. What is the difference between healthy toleration and compromise?
8.) The letters talk about the synagogues of Satan. Does that mean God has rejected all Jewish people?
Romans 11:1-“ I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.” (see Isaiah 49:14-15)
9.) In order to understand Scripture, it is essential to see three categories of people: Gentiles, Jewish people who are not followers of Jesus, and the Church of God made up of believing Jews and Gentiles.
1 Corinthians 10:32-
“ 32 Don’t give offense to
Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. ”
10.) What would Jesus say to FCFC? What do you think he would say to you?
Small group questions:
1.) What comes to mind when you think of the Book of Revelation?
2.) Why do you think Jesus used so much symbolism in the book?
3.) John lived to be a very old man. He called himself, “the disciple that Jesus
loved”. What else do we know about him?
Read Zechariah 12:10, “Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the
family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom
they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve
bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.” Compare that to
Revelation1:7, Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will
see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!”
4.) Are the two Scriptures above the same event? How will the Jewish nation
respond when Jesus reveals himself to them? It is similar to the story of
Joseph when Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. What a shock in both
stories!
5.) Jesus has the keys to death and the grave. How did he get them and what
does that mean to us?
6.) The emperor Domitian wanted to silence John and instead it has led to the book of Revelation and the revealing of the future. Who won that one? Often what looks like a defeat is turned around into a victory. Can you think of any more Biblical or personal examples of this?
7.) Revelation is like a spiritual time machine. It takes place in three-time dimensions and two places. Explain what that means.
8.) There is a blessing for reading the book of Revelation publicly as well as for those who hear the message and obey. What do you think that is?
9.) Jesus is the prototype of those who rise from the dead.
1 John 3:2-3 says,
“Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager
expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” Explain this.
10.) Are you afraid of the future? Does God want you to be afraid?
Small Group Questions:
1.) Why is the Great Tribulation necessary?
2.) When is the best time to decide to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? Why?
3.) What do you think of when you hear THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE?
Revelation 9
20 But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! 21 And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts. (Revelation 9)
4.) What is strange about this verse?
5.) The first seal/horseman is the antichrist. Why would anybody follow a world leader like this?
6.) War, famine, economic judgment, and death happen throughout the world during this time. If you were present then, what would you be thinking and doing?
7.) Twenty five percent of planet earth perished from this seal. That is conservatively over 1 ½ billion people after the rapture. Why does this happen?
7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living being say, “Come!” 8 I looked up and saw a horse whose color was pale green. Its rider was named Death, and his companion was the Grave. These two were given authority over one-fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword and famine and disease and wild animals.
8.) How does this chapter motivate you?
9.) Why does God include these “horrors” in Scripture?
Action Step: Pray together for unsaved loved ones and friends.
