God instructed the Israelites to remember the humbling and testing of the wilderness, where God provided for them. At home in the Promised Land, they were to remember the blessings from the Lord when they have eaten and are full, and resist the temptation of forgetting, which will lead to ruin. Dr. Larson reminds us to make Thanksgiving an act of humble gratitude and intentional remembrance of the abundance from God including eternal life through Christ Jesus.

In the Gospel of Mark Christ Jesus describes the dramatic, undeniable event of his return. His first act as the returning King will be to send his angels to "gather his elect from the four winds," marking the completion of his reign.
