  • What is the Trinity? An Intro to Trinitarian Theology
We are beginning a series on the Trinity! In this episode, we want to briefly introduce the doctrine of the Trinity.
This series was prompted by a listener's question on what the Trinity is and what it means to say that God is one in nature and three in persons.
And for our word of the day, Josiah has the duty to introduce the word, and Connor has the responsibility to use it in a sentence...

  • Welcome Back Vos
Well, it's been a while but we are finally back! After a long hiatus, we thought it would be helpful to provide a quick update, but also take the time to explain the different theological disciplines. Essentially, we want to explain Biblical Theology, Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, and Practical Theology and how they relate.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor explain that geometry sometimes has two meanings...
P.S. We have a new video podcast format! Sadly, we no longer all live in the same city, so we can't all meet in Bryton's basement to record (sad, I know). But we can now record remotely and will upload a video version of all our podcasts to our YouTube channel!

  • Critical Issues: Should a Christian Carry a Gun?
We are back with another Critical Issues episode. Today, we have a very special guest, our good friend Dom, here to help us think through a Christian’s relationship to firearms. Owning a gun is a serious matter because it is a weapon of deadly force. Here in the States, the 2nd Amendment recognizes the rights of its citizens to own firearms. So, should Christians own and carry guns? What does the Bible say about self-defense and our relationship with the State?
There are Christians on both sides of the aisle who will fiercely defend their position. Some say it's our God-given right to have guns, while others say that owning such a deadly weapon is not in the spirit of a Christian ethic. Believe it or not, the Bible does give insight into this discussion and we want to provide those resources for you so that you can engage thoughtfully, as a Christian should. This is a bit of a longer episode so grab a snack or make some coffee.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor prove that some of us are on shaky ground…

  • Heidelberg Catechism - The Ascension
In today's episode, we discuss questions 46-48 of the Heidelberg Catechism on Christ's ascension and the hypostatic union. The ascension of Christ is one of the more ignored aspects of the work and life of Jesus, so we would like to change that. With the ascension, we have hope. Without it, we are left to ourselves.
And for our word of the day, the plans of the wicked never prosper...

  • Why You’re A Legalist, feat. Brad Beevers
Admit it, that title got your attention. We all struggle with legalism, but the trick is nailing down exactly what that means. In today's episode, we feature a very special guest: Jimmy's dad! He has been writing a book on legalism, so we decided to have him on to talk about it. Join us for a very edifying discussion on why we are all legalists, even if we don't know it yet.
And for our logical fallacy of the day, Connor and James get emotional...

  • Heidelberg Catechism - The Resurrection of Christ
In today's episode, we talk about question 45 of the Heidelberg Catechism on the benefits of Christ's resurrection. That's right, benefits.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor make sure to include only the most important information...

  • Critical Issues: Transgenderism
We're back with another Critical Issues episode. The last two episodes were building a positive and biblical view of male and female identity. In today's episode, we look at the increased prevalence of transgender ideology in the Church, which directly challenges this notion. We want to provide our listeners with a biblical response to it and an informed view of what transgenderism actually involves as an ideology.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor give us a brief summary of our stated goals...

  • Heidelberg Catechism - The Death of Christ
In today's episode, we discuss questions 40-44 of the Heidelberg Catechism on the death and burial of Jesus.
And Josiah is out for this one, so Connor takes us through the logical fallacy of bringing a fish to a logic fight. . .

  • Critical Issues: Men of Dust
We're back with part 2 of our series on building a positive case for a biblical understanding of gender. In today's episode, we move from our discussion of women and turn to men, and then end by answering some anticipated objections to the idea of gender roles in Scripture.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor make the point that if you want to get things done, you must have the resources to do it...

  • Critical Issues: "She shall be called woman"
Critical Issues is back and we picked a real banger of a topic: gender. How does a Christian understand gender in light of modern gender theory? Instead of giving you a complicated lecture series on the concept, we want to build a positive case directly from Scripture. In today’s episode, we introduce the topic and build a case for the biblical role of women, in distinction from men. Equal in worth, but distinct by good design. As we hope to show, “she shall be called women” is not a social construct, but a foundational reality of God’s good creation.
And for our word of the day, Josiah and Connor show us why it’s important to speak with sincerity…
