Faith over fear. This statement isn’t a magical mantra that will dismantle fear. It isn’t a righteous tool that keeps me in check. It isn’t a phrase that I passively drop in conversations to be liked or evoke some sort of emotion. Faith over fear is something I hope to live by; I hope to walk in faith regardless of my circumstances. To properly address this topic, I need to separate the two words. The first being faith and the second being fear.
For all intents and purposes let’s cover the one we don’t like first. Fear. What is fear? In some circles, they would say, it’s false evidence appearing real. According to the dictionary, fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.
Therefore, I can assume that everyone fears one thing or another. Furthermore, this psychological response to danger, pain, or harm significantly limits our ability to respond in a rational manner. So much so, it triggers our fight or flight response and in most cases, it usually goes downhill from there. According to the Bible, fear is evident and real. However, God did not give his people a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and a sound mind.
