Jim Shaddix, former Senior Professor of Preaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, leads his first session at the Called conference (2022). Called conference is an event helping lead college age and high school seniors, men and women, to discern their calling to ministry.

For his second session, Dr. Shaddix challenged consider their roles as shepherd if they choose to accept such a calling. He dives into 1 Peter 5.

Summary of Session:
2 Questions:

1. Are you ready for the coming persecution?
2. Who is going to shepherd God's people through the persecution?

Hebrews 13:17 - You'll provide an account of those under your care.

As a shepherd of people's souls, keep these things in mind:

• It's God Flock
• How do we shepherd?
Superintend them - "look out over"; "get your hands dirty"; not passive
      Not for gain
      Without lording/domineering over them
      Willingly
• Serve like Christ/Symbolize Christ

Finally, make sure you recognize that this season is temporary.

Jim Shaddix, former Senior Professor of Preaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, leads his first session at the Called conference (2022). Called conference is an event helping lead college age and high school seniors, men and women, to discern their calling to ministry.

For his first session, Dr. Shaddix challenged those in attendance to truly consider if the calling of ministry is on their lives because it comes at a cost as taught by Jesus in Luke 9:57-62

Summary of session:
As you discern a call to ministry, some things to consider:

1. Reputation and resources at stake.
2. Religion is a safe place.
3. Relationships are strong.

Would you like to reconsider? Are you truly feeling a call to ministry? It comes at a cost. Are you willing to pursue the calling no matter the cost?

Dr. Chuck Kelley. President Emeritus and Distinguished Research Professor of Evangelism at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary delivers a message to the 2017 Alabama State Evangelism Conference. His message is an exhortation on what it takes to actually make an impact on the world for Christ.

Notes:
The message concerns the essential needs that must be addressed before a church or organization can create a successful evangelistic strategy. The most significant need is the Christ-Likeness of Church Members.

5 evidences of someone becoming Christ-Like:

• 1 Will - Surrendering to what God would have us do
• 2 Watch - Are we setting time aside for Jesus? The key to discipleship
• 3 Word - Becoming more Christlike through the study of His word
• 4 Wallet - Monetary decisions that honor God as sole Lord and in accord with His word
• 5 Witness - Gospel Conversations or verbal sharing of the story of Christ

Dr. Kelley concludes his message with one other element to consider in properly fueling an evangelistic strategy. 'The Missing Ingredient' revealed  in Luke 15, according to Dr. Kelley, is the lack of concern for lost people. Dr. Kelley passionately explains that every Christian needs the tension of people dying lost around them. To turn around and bring back the tension and concern in Christians, Dr. Kelley explains 3 processes to help.

• Pray Desperately
• Hammer Christlikeness / Discipleship
• Gossip the Gospel

To summarize the message as a whole:
A passion to save the lost and a transformation into greater Christ-Likeness for every church member is key to see an evangelistic strategy be successful.
