From his sin with Bathsheba, to leaving Amnon's crimes unpunished to how he handled the rebellion and death of his son Absalom, King David allowed his selfishness and his earthly appetites to smear not only his own legacy, but also the legacy of the people he was called to govern. Israel's future was changed by David's actions, the became like the other nations.And yet despite this God still used the nation of Israel as an example to the world. Israel would still be a blessing and a Light to the Nations, just in a different way.Israel showed other nations that life on this planet can be stained and broken as much as it can be hopeful and thriving.
Just as God, through David, put Israel back together and gave them a new future, because of Jesus and the power of his resurrection, God is piecing your life together in ways that you may not see, but that promises that your future will be a blessing, that you will shine with the brightness of God’s love, and you will live into the hope that God has placed in you, when God named and claimed you in Holy Baptism, to receive the resurrection promise that comes from being a child of God.

After the sin of David's affair with Bathseba sin had scarred David and all of Israel. God forgave David, but that didn’t mean that the nation was healed. From then on they’d be walking wounded.
It is the same for us. We know that we’ve been forgiven of our sins, but we often still feel the consequences of those sins. Sin isn’t just about the vertical relationship we have with God. Sin affects our human, earthly relationships. That’s why the first two commandments are about our relationship with God, and the other eight are about how to get along with each other.

David's affair with Bathseba and murder of her husband was an act of betrayal and even treason. However rather than discarding David for his indiscretion God chooses to use him. David was an adulterer. He abused his power and killed his lover’s husband. But God still had a future for him.
David married Bathsheba. And from that union Solomon is born. God created something beautiful and enduring out of something so outrageous and ugly.
God wouldn’t allow the worst moments and basest actions of a broken person impede what God wanted for the people of Israel. But instead used those moments to build something new and beautiful.
And the same is true for you. God uses those moments of pain and guilt in order to help you grow more fully into who God wants you to be.

The ark symbolized God presence and enduring protection for the people of Israel. When the ark entered into the Holy City Jerusalem there was cause for rejoicing. And breaking royal protocol, and any semblance of personal dignity, David broke out leaping and dancing in the in front of the ark of the covenant, or, as the story says, David danced before the Lord.
Together we are David's child, God's visible presence in the world. So let us all dance before the Lord in praise and thanksgiving.
