Why did Jesus call Himself the Son of man?

At first, the name sounds like it’s simply pointing to His humanity. But when we follow those words through Scripture, they take us all the way back to Daniel—and suddenly the clouds, the kingdom, the authority, and even the reaction of the high priest start making a whole lot more sense.

This week on Faithful Fridays, we’re following the name Son of Man from Daniel, through the words of Jesus, and all the way to Revelation.

Because sometimes the words we’ve read a hundred times are carrying a whole lot more than we realized.

What could Jesus have possibly said that made people want to stone Him?

That question sent me on a study I wasn’t expecting.

This week we’re following the reactions of the people around Jesus, listening to God’s own testimony, and asking one simple question:

What did God mean when He called Jesus His Son?

People rejected Jesus for many reasons.

But over and over again, one claim seemed to make people the angriest.

Why?

In this episode of Faithful Fridays, we’re looking at the moments when people picked up stones because of what Jesus said about Himself. We’ll follow the pattern through Scripture, listen to God’s testimony, and ask whether Jesus’ enemies misunderstood Him—or understood Him perfectly and simply refused to believe.

For thousands of years, God’s people waited for one person.

Not just another king.

Not just another prophet.

Not just another priest.

They were waiting for the Christ.

But what does that title actually mean?

In this episode of Faithful Fridays, we continue our study through the Names of Jesus by exploring the meaning of Christ. Together, we’ll search the Scriptures to discover why the apostles spent so much time proving that Jesus is the Christ, how the Old Testament prepared God’s people for His coming, and what this title teaches us about both Jesus and the faithfulness of God.

We’ll examine the role of the Messiah as God’s Anointed One, the fulfillment of the offices of Prophet, Priest, and King, and why this truth is still just as important for us today.

If God kept every promise He made concerning Christ, then we can trust Him to keep every promise He has made to us.

Welcome to Season 3 of Faithful Fridays!

Last season, we spent fifteen weeks studying the names of God and what they reveal about His character. But by the end of the season, something

unexpected happened—we ended with Jesus.

That led me to a question I couldn’t ignore.

If God revealed Himself through His names in the Old Testament, what do the names of Jesus reveal about Him in the New Testament?

That’s the journey we’re beginning this season.

Each week, we’ll open our Bibles together and study one name of Jesus at a time—not just to learn what He was called, but to better understand

who He is, why He came, and what He calls us to do in response to the gospel.

As always, I encourage you to follow along in your own Bible, take notes if you’re a note-taker like me, and never believe something simply because

We spent this season studying fifteen names of God. Each one revealed His character, His power, and His faithfulness. But these were never just names to memorize—they reveal the One true God.

And if God has no beginning or ending, why would He reveal Himself that way?

We call God all-powerful. But if someone watched our lives for a week, would they come to the same conclusion?

In this episode, we study the name El Gibbor, which means Mighty God. Together we’ll look at Isaiah’s prophecy about Jesus, the faith struggles of Abraham, Sarah, Martha, and others, and what it means to trust God’s promises when life doesn’t go according to our plans.

The question isn’t whether God is mighty.

The question is whether we trust Him to be.
