In this episode, Lou Huesmann challenges us to consider who we are becoming and identify where we are in the unfolding narrative of our lives. He reflects on how we know where we are and asks what framework we are using to answer this question -- one we have thoughtfully considered and chosen, or one we have received from our society, our culture, our family, our friends, or our church?
Lou shares a Substack post with the group by Kirk Squires called "The Regiven Life: When the Soul Outgrows the Life We Built" that speaks of a journey from the "given" life, to the "gotten" life, to the "regiven" life. Squires states, "This is what I mean by the Regiven Life: not life invented from scratch but life returned through surrender, received again in a truer form. Something more substantive and satisfying than striving ever produced -- life given back by the one who originated it."
Lou states that "what seems to be disorienting often can be the pathway to hope." God uses "a season of disorientation to do a fresh work of his transforming grace." According to Squires, "Often within this confusing season is an invitation to be slowly undone, remade, and deepened by the God who is always at work in our transformation." Lou notes that a posture of consenting to God's presence in our daily life helps us receive what God has regiven to us - the life God intended for us all along.
