Lake Texoma Daily Fishing Report

"Fall Fishing Forecast: Stripers, Bass, and Catfish Abound on Lake Texoma"

Listen Later

As of October 17, 2024, Lake Texoma is presenting some challenging yet promising fishing conditions. The weather has cooled down, with temperatures dropping, which is typical for this time of year. The lake is currently turning over, making the fishing a bit tougher, but there are still plenty of opportunities to catch some great fish.

The lake level is at 1.51 feet below pool, and the water temperature is around 75 degrees, with the water stained. Sunrise today is at about 7:30 AM, and sunset will be around 6:45 PM.

Striped bass fishing has been fair, particularly on the flats in 30 feet of water or deeper. Live bait is your best bet, as the artificial bite is slow and there's very little surface action for a topwater bite. However, with a bit more cool weather, the topwater bite is expected to pick up in the shallows. For now, focus on ledges in 25-40 feet of water near river channels and creeks using live bait, and you might find yourself catching limits.

Bass fishing is picking up, especially for smallmouth. Use Alabama rigs with paddle tails near docks and down the bluffs in the morning. For largemouth, try soft plastics and hard baits on main lake points and in the backs of cuts midday. Look for cooler water temperatures and foggy coves early in the morning for the best results.

Crappie fishing remains slower due to the warm temperatures, but you can still find them around brush and structure in 12-18 feet of water near points and off the creek ledges. Jigs and small minnows are your best options here.

Catfishing is great, with channels and blue catfish active on shad and prepared baits. For channels, target humps in 15-20 feet of water, and for blue catfish, look at ledges in 30-50 feet of water. While the big blues haven't shown up yet, cooler water temperatures ahead should bring them out.

Some hot spots to consider include the areas near river channels and creeks, especially around the ledges. The flats in deeper water are also worth a try for striped bass. For bass, focus on docks, bluffs, and main lake points. For catfish, humps and ledges are your best bets.

Overall, while the turning over of the lake presents some challenges, the cooler weather and right bait can make for a successful and enjoyable fishing trip on Lake Texoma.
