Neuroscience shows that imagining the future is not fantasy. In a landmark 2007 paper published in Nature Reviews Neuroscience, researchers Daniel Schacter, Donna Rose Addis and Randy Buckner found that remembering the past and imagining the future rely on many of the same neural systems in the brain. In other words, the brain is wired to simulate what has not happened yet.
