Is it good to wrestle the Maker of Heaven and Earth? That is the question we are left asking as Jacob grapples with God in this passage. Indeed, Jacob has been wrestling with God his whole life. In this sermon we will discover that wrestling with God means trusting in him through unbelief. To find this, we will look at the character of Jacob, the attributes of God, and the three ways that Jacob has prevailed. 

Will the Israelites make it out alive? After committing idolatry and worshipping a golden calf they had built, God tells Moses that He will wipe out the nation of Israel. Moses responds by interceding on the basis of God's holy name. In this sermon, we will study the intercession of Moses, discover the grace that God has for His people, and learn about the new and better covenant that we have in Christ.

In I Samuel 3, the young boy Samuel encounters the living God during a time of spiritual famine, when the Word of the LORD had become rare. In His Grace, God calls Samuel, who responds, "Speak, for your servant hears." God then entrusts his Word to Samuel and establishes him as His prophet to lead his people. Ultimately, Samuel points us to Jesus Christ--the perfect Prophet, Priest, and King--through whom God has spoken fully and finally, and through whom we draw near to God by faith.

Fear often arrives after the battle is over. In Genesis 15, Abram has just experienced a great victory, yet God comes to him with a simple command: “Fear not.” This sermon explores how God meets fearful believers with His promises, counts faith as righteousness, and points us to Christ through His covenant with Abram. Faith is not the absence of questions—it is confidence in the One who answers.

When God's people are still surrounded by enemies, is it really possible to rejoice? Esther 7-8 shows how God exposes the plans of the wicked, preserves His people, and gives them reason for joy even in the midst of their enemies. Listen as we see how this story points us to Christ and the confidence believers can have today.

When obedience to God may cost you everything, where does courage come from? Esther 5:1–8:2 shows how God works through prayerful courage, wise action, and His unseen providence to frustrate the proud and preserve His people. Listen as we consider how believers are called to play their part while trusting God to play His.

When belonging to God's people comes at a cost, will you stand for Him? In Esther 4, the queen faces an identity crisis as she is called to forsake her palace security to save God's people from peril. In this sermon, we see how God leads His people into difficult choices and strips away false hopes in order to give courage to stand for Him.

What hope is there when the wicked appear to prosper and the righteous seem to suffer? Like Psalm 73, Esther 3 forces us to look beyond the immediate moment and remember that the story is not yet finished. Listen as we see why God's people can trust Him even when evil seems to have the upper hand.
