This week, Nick May chats with Keith Murphy, a painting contractor from Newfoundland, Canada! Keith worked at his father Leonard’s company while in high school and college. With Leonard slowly detaching himself from operations, Keith gradually altered processes to improve the service. Despite the business going well, working with family is often a cause for conflict. Eventually, Keith discussed with his parents, who couldn’t be happier for him wanting to go on his own. Today, Keith unofficially runs the company, and his family is closer together than ever. Instead of talking business, today we’re exploring the topic of working with close friends or relatives. While it sounds good on paper, there’s a risk of work conflict poisoning your personal interactions outside of work.
