In the past few messages, we have been considering the ripple effects of that sin through the insolence of Joab, the lack of self control of Amnon and Absalom, and Absalom's desire for revenge against his father. Today, we conclude our consideration of the relationship between Absalom and David.

Over the past three messages we have been considering the ripple effects of that sin through the insolence of Joab and the lack of self control of his sons, Amnon and Absalom. Today, we continue looking at the effects of David's life upon the life of Absalom and how Absalom responded to them.

Over the past two messages we have begun to see the ripple effects of David's sin through the insolence of Joab and the lack of self control of his sons, Amnon and Absalom. Amnon forced himself upon his half-sister, Tamar (the sister of Absalom). Absalom plotted his revenge, had Amnon executed and then fled into exile with his maternal grandfather, Talmai the King of Geshur. Today, we continue looking at the effects of David's life upon the life of Absalom and how Absalom responded to them.

After God made an everlasting covenant with David, David fell into sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and then orchestrated the death of her husband, Uriah. As a consequence of his sin, the child who was conceived via that illicit relationship would die. Also, God tells David that the sword would not depart from his family and that his own wives would be violated - only publicly. Today, we begin to see more of the ripple effects of David's sin. We would do well to consider its application to our own lives!

Last week we considered David's struggle with temptation. In that study, we saw God's statement of consequences to David and considered the "ripple effect" of sin (how the consequences of our sin negatively influences the lives of others around us as well). Today, we consider we will consider another of those ripple effects.

YHWH made an everlasting covenant with David. As a result, David sought to expand the kingdom according to God's prophecy to Abraham and through Moses. David then sought to show the lovingkindness of God to Mephibosheth (Jonathan's son) and Hanun (the son of the King of

Ammon). But from this lofty position, David proves he is a mere man. Today, we consider the progression and the aftermath of David making bad decisions.

Today we see David's desire to show khesed - faithful lovingkindness - to two separate individuals and, more importantly, their response and the consequences of their individual decision. In these transactions we see an incredible illustration of how mankind responds to the khesed of God offered to them!

Today, we begin to see God's fulfillment of this covenant and that which He made with Israel in the expansion of the Davidic kingdom. As well, we will again see the balance that Scripture continually reveals between the responsibility of man and the Sovereignty of God!

Until this point, the redemptive plan of God has focused on the Covenant that God made with Israel through Abraham and then through Moses. In today's study, we see God reveal the next phase of His redemptive plan ... His covenant with David As we consider today's passage, we are reminded that God's ways are always above our ways!

This morning we will look at 1 Chronicles 16 as David models for us a key principle of the Christian life, namely taking time for thanksgiving. With the ark safely in Jerusalem it was time for celebration, thanksgiving and praise. And David's Psalm in this chapter reveals a number of key aspects that we should regularly incorporate into our own times of thanksgiving.
