As God has worked through various individuals throughout history, so He has related to human beings in different manners during different dispensations under different covenants. When God called Abram from his home, He gave Abram a promise. Later God would take that promise and seal it into an everlasting covenant while giving Abram a new name, Abraham. The consummation and consequence of the covenant of God with Abraham has profound application to the lives of believers who a part of the New covenant. The covenant must be accepted by the recipient. The covenant must be seal with a blood sacrifice. The covenant would be accompanied by a seal, or sign. We are told that Abraham believed YHWH and YHWH accounted it to him for righteousness. In this covenant with Abraham, we see the soteriological plan of God being developed further ... salvation would be by the grace of God through faith, not by works!

Through the description of history, as recorded in the Scriptures, God has chosen to work through various individuals at various times. One of those individuals God chose to use was Abram. God called to Abram to leave his country, his family, and his religious heritage. God promised that he would lead Abram to a special country and make of him a great nation. Abram believed God and heeded His voice. Yet Abram, being yet young in his faith, failed at times to keep his focus on God during the ensuing hard times. We, as well, must be faithful to answer the call of God and to trust that He is faithful not to allow us to be tempted, or tried, beyond what we are able to bear. Our faith is strengthened when we undergo times when we must trust God against the backdrop of the circumstances in life.

When man got off the ark, God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth." However, man chose to rebel against God stating, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower who top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." So, God divided man linguistically and geographically. This account of the Towel of Babel also has prophetic significance. It is from this site that we see the origins of Babylon which is the foretype of the World Empire that will reign during the end times. The consideration of the mentality of these people not far removed from the time of the flood, while survivors of the flood still remained, forces us to consider our own attitudes towards heeding the will of God and investing in His Kingdom and not that of the world.

Every time we see a rainbow in the sky, it is a reminder to us of the faithfulness of God to fulfill His covenants. After God destroyed the earth with a flood, saving only Noah, his three sons, and each of their wives, God made a promise to Noah and all of the earth that He would never again destroy it with a flood. He then stated that He would put a rainbow in the clouds as a sign of that covenant. God is true to His covenants. He is not a man that He should lie. What He has spoken He will maintain. So it is with the New Covenant that He purchased through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Just as the days of Noah are used as a analogy of the end times, so the continual fulfillment of this Noahic Covenant is a reminder of His faithfulness to keep all His promises.

One of the saddest verses in Scripture: "YHWH saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent (to mold or form) of the thoughts (purpose, plan, plot, strategizing) of his heart was only evil continually." (Genesis 6:5) Man turned away from God and God finally had to judge man. Yet in the midst of this tragedy the grace of God shines, "But Noah found grace in the eyes of YHWH." In this message we look both at the heritage, call and faithfulness of Noah ... and the cause, scope and prophetic import of the flood.

In Genesis 4 we see the sad continuance of sin in the second generation. Apparently, God had instituted a sacrificial system where a firstfruit offering was to be brought. Abel brought the choicest part of the firstborn of the flock; Cain brought "some of" the fruit of the ground. Though some interpret Cain's sin as not having a blood sacrifice, the Hebrew text does not confirm that interpretation. Rather, the offering that they brought was a minchah (a general offering, used of the grain offerings in Leviticus), not an olah (something given wholly over to destruction, used of sin sacrifices and burnt offerings) or ishah (that which is sacrificed by fire). God admonished Cain and warned him about the sin that was lurking at the door. God told him that he must master the sin or it would consume him. Cain rejected God's counsel, slew his brother and was banished from dwelling with the rest of his family.

The initial sermon of Jesus, the Sermon on the Mount, is recorded beginning in chapter 5 of the book of Matthew. The beginning of that sermon is a section known as the Beattitudes. Those this portion of scripture is hard to understand and many times misinterpretted and misused, it is one of the greatest portions of Scripture and worthy of our study and consideration. When God created Adam, He placed him in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. Additionally, God told Adam that he could eat from any tree in the garden except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God stated that on the day that Adam ate from that tree he would die. In Genesis 3 we see Adam and Eve choose to disregard the admonition of the LORD, listening to the deception of Satan (appearing in the form of the serpent), casting themselves and the rest of humanity in a struggle against sin.

Genesis chapter two is a breakout of the sixth day of God's creation. Along with verses 26 through 30 of Chapter One this chapter reveals the origin of man. God's Word very clearly states that man was created in the image and likeness of God and with the breath of life. Man as well was created to have dominion over, and take care of, the earth. Finally, God created a companion, or helpmeet, for man. This helper was made from Adam's side. The man and woman, being joined as one, are to be the reflection of Christ and the church.

The book of Genesis is the book of the beginnings. It is the foundation of the rest of Scriptures. It is no wonder that Satan, and his workers (2 Cor 11), seek to undermine the literal interpretation of the book. God clearly declares in His Word that He created the heavens and the earth in six 24 hour days (resting on the seventh). All attempts to marry the Biblical creation account with "millions of years" have to eliminate a literal interpretation of God's Word. God literally states that heavens were framed by the Word of God. God literally states that by the Word of the LORD the heavens were made and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Belief in the Creator God is truly a core value in any true faith.
