  • 41. Body Hair with Shelly Anand, Author of 'Laxmi's Mooch'
Indra and Deana talk about body hair with Shelly Anand, author of the new children’s book ‘Laxmi’s Mooch.’ Shelly discusses how her own personal journey with body hair removal/shame coupled with the story of a Desi friend’s daughter getting teased at school about her body hair inspired her to write a children’s book that promotes body hair positivity. All three women talk about their first experiences with body hair removal, how they approach it now, and how they hope to talk to their children about it. They also discuss colorism in Bollywood, how the colonial white gaze has affected South Asian body hair removal and beauty standards, and the pressures first generation South Asian women face as mothers living in America. Also, Indra and Deana give an update on their almost fully-vaccinated lives and tease the juicy gossip they’ll discuss in their Thirsty Thirty Bravo TV and pop culture chat later this week (only available at patreon.com/familykarmakast).

  • 40. Victoria Lee From @asianswhowatchbravo
Indra and Deana chat with the funny, intelligent, and insightful Victoria Lee, who runs the @asianswhowatcobravo account on Instagram. Victoria talks about what inspired her to start the account last year (spoiler alert: racism against Asians on Bravo), her positive and negative experiences with being outspoken on social media, her thoughts on the recent hate crimes against Asians in general and at the spa in Atlanta, the everyday racism she experiences as an East Asian woman, and her thoughts on the representation of East Asians in media throughout her life and going forward. She also discusses how she feels about Tiffany Moon from the Real Housewives of Dallas, the various disappointing behaviors we’ve seen from the non-Asian women on the cast, and what was really going on with chicken-feet-gate. Also, don’t miss their conversations about South Asian v. East Asian culture, the role of the internet in our mass killing crisis in this country, and how Bravo continually marginalizes shows that feature marginalized populations.

  • 38. 'The Bachelor' (Matt James' Season) Recap With Deepti From Pop Culture Prisoner
Indra and Deana’s pal Deepti of the podcast ‘Pop Culture Prisoner’ is back to recap Matt James’ explosive season of ‘The Bachelor’ on ABC. In this conversation, the women dig deep into the big questions and controversy surrounding this season: Is Matt really as boring as he was portrayed on the show? Did the producers do him and the BIPOC contestants dirty? Should Chris Harrison be cancelled? Will Bachelor Nation ever get it “right” when it comes to race? Has Rachael Kirkconnell really learned from the backlash she experienced this season? And what’s the deal with Matt’s beard, anyway? They also talk about Rachael and Matt’s riveting interaction on ‘After the Final Rose’, Matt’s unexpected transformation from filming to now, Katie and Michelle as the two new Bachelorettes, Emmanuel Acho as the host of AFR, Serena P’s South Asian identity, Taylor Nolan’s tweets, our BIP picks, and so much more.
