In 2 Corinthians 5:9-21, Paul shows that those who are in Christ are new creatures, called to live for the One who died and rose again for them. Ronnie Burge explains that salvation is entirely by grace through faith, yet the changed Christian life requires diligence: cleansing away worldly filthiness, renewing the mind through God's word, and refusing spiritual stagnation. Drawing from his own testimony of deliverance, he urges believers to stay close to the word and let others see that Jesus Christ has made them different.

We have been considering the "good things" promised. We have examined them in clusters of blessings; beginning with effective substitution, then considering the power for life given us, moving on to comfort for our souls and lastly the stunning promise of our adoption into the family of God. But HOW does Jesus' role as High Priest connect to these good things (and so many others) because the writer here plainly states that He came as High Priest OF the good things to come… So more pointedly, how does His priesthood serve these promises, How does it deliver them and us?! What difference does it make that He has a place as a "priest according to the order of Melchizedek"? How does that priesthood secure these blessings for us? How is Jesus a High Priest OF these good things?

The question that will be asked throughout this sermon series is "What Kingdom Does One Belong to?". Will we serve God in troubled times? This week the state of Massachusetts has allowed "free reign" abortion giving no voice to the unborn. Nebuchadnezzar is a man who has no bounds; he is a man with no restraints. In today's sermon he will ask his advisors to interpret his dream or suffer the consequences of death to themselves and their families. The surrounding world is no different. In fact, at the end of our sermon this morning O Lord poses the same question concerning His kingdom as His first words in the Gosepel of Mark is "Repent and Believe The Gospel; the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
