According to the Child Mind Institute, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is actually major depression that changes when seasons change. Fall and Winter are most prevalent because of the shorter days, getting darker sooner.
As a parent, when are children are hurting, we hurt also. We want to take away the pain that they are going through. We tend to blame ourselves when in reality, some things are really not our fault at all.
In this podcast, I share my own story of being a mom and helping my daughters navigate through this pandemic and all the changes that they have been forced to make. Many children are dealing with depression because their schools have closed or they can no longer be with friends.
I hope that this podcast will help you as much as it helps me in both my professional and personal life.
As suggested, if you feel that your child is depressed or dealing with SAD, please reach out to their pediatrician or the Child Mind Institute at childmind.org.
You don't have to go through this alone and help is out there for your family.
