Faridah Abdul-Tawwab Brown and Frank Abdul Shaheed introduce a 3rd episode to a new season of The Family Ties, framing the show as a prescription for healing the human family through a covenantal relationship with God, rooted in the African American experience of chattel slavery and the creation of culture from “essence” rather than inherited traditions. They discuss how obedience, spirituals, blues, and jazz expressed humanity and helped shape America, which they describe as the “final conversation” on human establishment and a call back to founding ideals. They contrast human capital guiding material production versus materialism controlling people, and address February 2026 global conflicts, highlighting Palestine/Jerusalem as a focal symbol of justice and sacred human life. They emphasize knowledge, revelation, leadership, charity (including Ramadan), and invite audience engagement via their website and social platforms.

Family Ties: Where We’ve Been, Where We’re Going—Stewardship, Sacred Knowledge, and Finding Your Voice
Co-hosts Faridah Abdul-Tawwab Brown and Frank Abdul Shaheed open a new season of The Family Ties by reflecting on over 30 (Actually 31) prior episodes about the family as a necessary institution for human flourishing, then shifting to “where we’re going” amid 21st-century challenges for the human family. Faridah recaps taking their teenage daughters with relatives to Senegal so they could study Quran memorization, experience a society prioritizing sacred knowledge, develop responsibility and self-sufficiency, and gain sensitivity through exposure to rural poverty and different socioeconomic realities, then return home committed to continuing Quran study and sharing its message. Frank recounts surgery that removed severe pain but temporarily took his voice, leading him to reflect on the human voice as leadership and calling people to proper purpose, and framing the show’s renewed mission as calling humanity back to interdependence and purpose while inviting listener engagement online.

Co-hosts Faridah Abdul-Tawwab Brown and Frank Abdul Shaheed return after about a year to launch a new season of The Family Ties Show: A Prescription for Society, thanking listeners and explaining their hiatus, including Frank’s emergency surgery that temporarily affected his speech and required rehabilitation. They frame the family as an instrument and “pair” that supports society and extend this to the “human family,” arguing that global and local events are interconnected and should be evaluated by their impact on family and human dignity. Frank describes how heavy snowfall prompted neighborly support, while Faridah shares her new work with a human rights organization in Mississippi and a sobering visit to Medgar Evers’ home, noting a plaque was replaced after being hit by gunfire amid neighborhood violence. They invite audience engagement as they discuss serious, faith-informed reflections on today’s polarizing challenges.
