Deep sea mining has been broadly opposed in both American Samoa and the Marianas at the governmental, scientific and community level. But due to the territorial status of the islands involved, it looks like the US federal government may ignore the concerns of the communities who may face unknown but serious environmental and economic impacts if deep sea mining takes place in their surrounding waters. 

For the third episode in the series “In Solidarity” hosted by Maria Hernandez and Teihini Davis focused the conversation on the opposition in American Samoa and Marianas to deep sea mining. For this episode they brought on as guest Andra Samoa, an environmentalist and former member of the American Samoa House of Representatives and Angelo Villagomez, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

The Uritao Youth Leadership Academy or UYLA was held for a second year at the Guam Museum, organized by Inetnon Gefpå'go under the direction of Master of Chamoru Performance Vince Reyes. Over the course of the six week program, young men were immersed in Chamoru dance, music, culture, learning everything from slinging, fishing, navigation and hut-building. The goal of the program is not only to teach them skills, but to also prepare them to become leaders in the community. 

For this episode of Fanachu, participants for the 2026 program were interviewed about their experiences after spending the day visiting the Guam Cultural Repository and viewing repatriated artifacts and other historic collections. '

Back in 2020, Fanachu held a four part series focusing on the Netflix film "Operation Christmas Drop." This is the fourth and final commentary episode in the series, which features community advocates, filmmakers and artists from Chuuk, Ulithi, the Marshall Islands, Pohnpei and the Marianas. 

This episode was hosted by Michael Lujan Bevacqua and featured as guests Juliet Rama (Yap), Kathy Martin (Chuuk), Nedine Songeni (Chuuk), Leni Leon (Marshall Islands/CNMI), Emeli Kihleng (Pohnpei) and Cara Flores (Guam).

From the Fanachu archives - here is the seventh ever episode of Fanachu, recorded and hosted by the Godfather and Founder of Fanachu - Manny Cruz way back in 2017. 

Fanachu was started by Manny Cruz through the Media Committee for Independent Guåhan and many of those early episodes were recorded either in classrooms at the University of Guam, at Independent Guåhan events or remotely in peoples' offices.

The election of Donald Trump as President of the United States in 2016, led to the invigoration of a number of federal policies that were oppressively erasing the Chamoru people, their rights, their claims to land, and also militarizing their resources. In response to this trend, Independent Guåhan called on the community to gather at the Respect of the CHamoru People Rally on April 7, 2017 at Adelup. This episode of Fanachu was recorded a month prior to the rally as a chance to vent and gather critical thoughts, and covered a wide range of topics including human rights, sovereignty and land stewardship. The rally was a success and attended by more than 600.

From the Fanachu archives - here is the sixteenth ever episode of Fanachu, recorded and hosted by the Godfather and Founder of Fanachu - Manny Cruz way back in 2017. 

Fanachu was started by Manny Cruz through the Media Committee for Independent Guåhan and many of those early episodes were recorded either in classrooms at the University of Guam, at Independent Guåhan events or remotely in peoples' offices such as this episode. 

For this episode Manny spoke to Joe Bradley who had worked as a longtime economist for the Bank of Guam. In 2000 he had published a study outlining the economic potentials for Guam under different political statuses. In this interview he talked about his findings and provided some updates. He also surprised Manny with his sense of humor.

Typhoon Mawar devastated Guam in May 2023, and even before the winds had calmed, those in the diaspora with Guam ties were already actively searching for ways to support and assist those back home. This episode of Fanachu premiered just 1 month after Typhoon Mawar hit the Marianas, and featured organizers from the Inafa'maolek Mutual Aid Ginen Sanlagu Group which coordinated supplies, donations and more that was sent back to Guam. Featured on the episode as guests are Alex “Tåddong” White, Janai Limtiaco and Kutturan Chamoru Foundation Fafa’na’gue Heidi Quenga.

Fanachu was started by Manny Cruz through the Media Committee for Independent Guåhan and many of those early episodes were recorded either in classrooms at the University of Guam, at Independent Guåhan events or like this episode recorded at the newly opened Guam Museum.

This episode featured as guest prominent Micronesian and Pacific Studies Dr. Vicente Diaz. In 2017 he gave a presentation at the Guam Museum and right afterwards was interviewed by Manny Cruz for this podcast episode. They focused on the trauma of cultural misrepresentations of Pacific Islanders in Western media.

This was the last episode of Fanachu prior to the arrival Typhoon Mawar in 2023, which featured as guest David Flores Jr., a musician, educator and one of the founders of Chief Gadao Academy. He shared stories of his grandparents Tun Guillermo Sablan Flores (Familian Kabesa 1898-1973) and Tan Rita Pangelinan De Leon Flores (Familian Bådu 1892-1980). Tun Emo' and Tan Rita are also the great-grandparents of Miget.

This episode was recorded for "Ha'ånen Fino' Chamoru Ha'" a campaign started by Michael Lujan Bevacqua and Ken Gofigan Kuper to encourage people to try to speak Chamoru as much as possible for a single day at the start of Mes Chamoru or Chamoru Month. For this episode, the guests, which included Ed "Pulan Speaks" Leon Guerrero, Ray Lujan, AJ Taimanglo, Arielle Taitano Lowe, Maria Lynn Cruz and BJ Bell, they all tried their best to use Chamoru in their comments even though it was difficult.

The first episode of Fanachu in the wake of Typhoon Mawar in 2023, featured diasporic Chamoru musician PC Muñoz, whose diverse musical interests ranged from free jazz, funk, hip hop and even the belembaotuyan.
